RINAT KURAMSHIN

FABLES

The "Fables" engravings are an undoubted success of Rinat Kuramshin. The engravings, based on drawings, were made in the early period of his artist’s life, in the 2nd half of the 1970s. The young artist created the drawings when he was impressed by fairytales and fables. The main characters in the tales were wild and domestic animals and birds. The young artist lived in a remote province in Bashkiria where he would watch chickens, geese, rabbits, cows, horses and other domestic fauna. He would often see foxes, wolves, moose and other wild animals brought by his relatives and friends from hunting.

Numerous sketches of animals and bright impressions from books served the basis of the "Fables" drawings. Teachers from the local art school helped the student to make his first engravings. This is where Rinat Kuramshin acquired his first professional skills in printing gravures, engravings and lithographs. These early works show you the artist’s attitude to the surrounding world. In spite of the seeming childishness and naivete of fables, they contain a profound sense which helps us make fun of negative human traits and emphasize a didactic meaning of a situation.

The "Fables" prints and engravings took part in the “Classic and Contemporary Art” international exhibitions dedicated to the Year of the Russian Language and Literature in Great Britain and to the English Language and Literature in Russia. During 2015 – 2017, an exhibition took place in a representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in London, at UСL University, Cambridge University. Rinat Kuramshin’s artworks based on literature aroused great interest and have got admire the visitors of the exhibitions.
